Sussex Sports Awards Public Vote 2008

Vote Today for your Sussex Sports Personality and Young Sports Personality of the Year! 

- Voting closes at 6:00pm Friday 14 November 2008.

 

As it enters into its fifth successful year, the annual Sussex Sports Awards is opening up two of the major categories to the public vote for the very first time!

From Saturday 1 November to Friday 14 November, members of the public will be invited to vote for the Sussex ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ and ‘Young Sports Personality of the Year’. Short-listed nominees will be featured in the local media, including radio interviews on Juice FM and features in The Argus newspaper.

Cast your vote here by clicking on the link below. Choose the category you would like to vote for and read about the short-listed nominees to decide who deserves your vote! The winner will be announced at the awards evening on Friday 21 November at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

Category - Sports Personality of the Year

Ben Hawes

Finishing 5th at the Beijing Olympics - Ben Hawes has 152 England and GB Hockey appearances to his name. He first made his international bow at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Hawes captained the side to Gold at the Olympic qualifiers in Chile before leading the side at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. 

Caroline Collie

Caroline Collie signed from fellow Premier League side Chelsea in September 2007. She has played for Scotland at all levels and is now looking to push with both club and country. She has been a very strong presence for Chelsea, especially last season as Chelsea had the second best defensive record in the division behind the champions Arsenal.

Olly Freeman

Currently ranked 6th in the World for triathlon, Olly Freeman achieved his first podium as a senior elite this year with 3rd at the Hamburg World Cup. As a junior, Olly held the European Junior Triathlon Champion and World Junior Duathlon Champion titles for 2 years running. Reserve for the 2008 Beijing Olympic GB Team, his season has been filled with results all in the top ten across the world against very competitive fields.

 

Category - Young Sports Personality of the Year

Camilla Freeman

Although a full time GCSE level student Camilla Freeman sustains a high level of input and dedication to her sport: triathlon. She has recently made her international debut, representing Great Britain in the European Youth Triathlon Relays in Spain where she took her team from fourth position when she began to a podium place and bronze medal. She holds multiple national champion titles at triathlon and biathlon.

Charlotte Woolliscroft

Charlotte has won five UK National Titles in swimming this year. At the National Youth Championships in July 2008, she won three National Titles during the week. Charlotte was selected to join the GB Swim Team at the start of 2008 and narrowly missed selection for the Olympics. However she competed for GB in the Open Water competition in South Africa, and then qualified for the World 5K Championships in Spain, and later in the European 5K and 10K.

 
Emily Llewellyn

At 19 years old, Emily Llewellyn is one of Britain’s most successful Three Day Event Riders. Last years Emily was the only Rider to have ever won both the National Junior U18 Championships and U21 Championships in the same year. In 2008 Emily won outright 5 National Events and was the youngest person to be selected for the Young Rider European Championship Team to go to Germany in September. Emily and her horse Pardon Me put up a fautless performance winning Individual Gold and Team Gold. They are only the 7th British rdier to achieve this Double Gold in 27 years!
