Get Active - Walk

Walk 4Life

Walking is an excellent natural exercise that can help you stay healthy, live longer, control your weight and keep happy. It’s also a great way of discovering your local area and spending quality time with friends and family.

Walking is also a great way to start building up those 30 active minutes. What’s more, walking has a lot to offer! It makes great use of the environment around us - making the most of where you live. It can provide all the benefits of being physically active, such as improving your mood, increasing energy, keeping your heart ’strong’, and reducing blood pressure.  It’s also a great way to fight stress and improve mental health.

30 Active Minutes

Walking is the perfect activity to start with on your daily half hour of health!

The idea is to do a brisk walk.  ‘Brisk’ walking means walking so that you breathe a little faster, feel warmer and have a slightly faster heart beat.  You should still be able to talk.  If you can’t carry on a conversation, then you’re going too fast!

Why is walking the perfect activity for health?

  • Almost everyone can do it
  • You can do it anywhere and any time
  • It’s a chance to make new friends
  • It’s free and you don’t need special equipment
  • You can start slowly and build up gently
