Volleyball

There are currently nine volleyball teams in Sussex with two mens leagues and a ladies league, but limited junior volleyball. We recognise the importance of getting kids involved in sport as early as possible and support a model where SVA clubs should be supporting local schools and encouraging kids to continue playing sport once they have left school.

Volleyball does not have the same profile as other sports in schools and in an effort to promote volleyball, the SVA can provide funded training/coaching courses for any interested teachers in Sussex.

Useful Stuff

  • Free beach volleyball for schools in Brighton and Hove!Every state school in Brighton and Hove has been offered up to ten hours free use of the beach sports facilities at Nivea Sun Yellowave between now and March.

Nivea Sun Yellowave is Brighton and Hove’s only 2012 training base. Sports on offer include beach volleyball, beach soccer, tag beach rugby and climbing on the bouldering wall.

“We are open year round but we are obviously quieter in autumn and winter and so it’s a great opportunity for us to give something back to the local community” said Spencer Mintram, Venue Manager.

“Getting children doing something a bit different to the usual schools sports is key to engaging them in an active, healthy lifestyle outside of school hours. Who knows we hope that one day Brighton can develop its very own beach volleyball Olympian.”

Schools can book their sessions direct with the venue by calling 01273 672222.
  • Brighton Beach Volleyball 2008Absolute Brighton TV captures the Sussex Games Community Volleyball Event - 1 September 2008 organised by the Sussex County Sports Partnership in association with Brighton and Hove City Council and Volleyball England.
