Stoolball
Not many people outside Sussex have heard of stoolball. Why? Because it is a traditional Sussex village game. It is over 500 years old and can be played by teams of ladies or mixed.
Stoolball is very similar to cricket. Teams have eleven players, one team batting and the other fielding. Other things like runs, boundaries, catches and run-outs are the same. The only things that are different are balls, bats and wickets.
Playing stoolball is comparatively cheap, and it doesn’t need an immaculate pitch so it can be layed almost anywhere. It is suitable for school playing fields and recreation grounds. Teams play for fun, or in competitive league and cup matches all over Sussex.
