Rugby Union

About Rugby Union

Rugby Union in Sussex has grown significantly over the last 3 years. Building on England’s Success in the World Cup, schools and clubs are taking up the opportunities offered by the RFU, Sussex Rugby Union and the Sussex Sports Partnership.

Rugby Clubs with Junior sections, offering rugby to boys and girls aged 7 to 18 are establishing a network of links with their Local schools. The aim of these links is to support the delivery of rugby in schools through a programme of coaching delivery, and the training and provision of coaching courses for teachers.

Schools, that at present, do not play Rugby, have the opportunity to join the Emerging Schools programme. This is a programme of assisted delivery and local festivals.  One school, who introduces Rugby this season will be selected to represent Sussex at the National Finals of the Emerging Schools event, held at Twickenham in May.  For more information on this and all other rugby matters contact  the RFU Rugby Development Officer:
